80's Movies

Teen Witch  1989
Robyn Lively

High school geek, Louise longs to be noticed by her hunky football star crush, Brad. Louise befriends a local fortune teller who helps her become the most popular girl in school.  Once all the new found attention grows sour, Louise has a choice to make; stay under an adoring spell or being yourself was good enough.

 The Monster Squad  1987
Andre Gower  Duncan Regehr

Sean, leader of his group of horror fanned friends called 'The Monster Squad' discovers that Count Dracula is trying to take over his small town.  This has been a favorite of mine since I was little.  It has the greats of the monster movie genre; Frankenstein, Wolfman (and he has nards!) Mummy and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

 Legend 1985
Tom Cruise  Mia Sara  Tim Curry

This film is my absolute favorite! I could go on and on with it for hours!!  A forest boy falls in love with a princess and loses her to the devil of darkness after the powerful magic of the earths unicorns has been tainted by evil.  There are three versions of this film but I highly recommend the 1985, US version with the Tangerine Dream score! That particular version blends the film together and leaves a loving lasting memory.  The hard work that went into this film is incredible.  Tim Curry is usually magnificent in each role he accepts but this one is hands down the best.

Some Kind of Wonderful  1987
Leah Thompson  Mary Stewart Masterson

Keith is a small town hard working teenage boy in love and destine to date the most popular girl in school.  His best friend Watts has crushed on Keith for years but puts her feelings for him aside to bring together the perfect date.  This is a cute love story that ends the way it should.

The Legend of Bille Jean  1985
Helen Slater  Christian Slater
I love, love, love this film.  Billie Jean Davey and her brother Binx live in a trailer park and are often bullied by a local privileged boy Hubie who trashes Binx's bike.  When Billie Jean goes to Hubie's father to ask for money for the damaged bike, he tries to rape her.  Binx accidently shoots Hubie's father only injuring him but Billie Jean and Binx panic and runaway.

Stand By Me  1986
Will Wheaton  River Phoenix

This film is a coming of age story and I feel that every young boy should watch it.  Four friends, travel on foot to see a dead body of a boy they know.  Story is set in the summer of the mid 1950's.  It is an easy to follow plot and each character shines through to your heart.

Summer School  1987
Mark Harmon  Kirstie Alley

A easy going gym teacher is forced to teach an English course over his summer vacation for a bunch of misfits.  This is such a goofy feel good film, I can guarantee a chuckle or two will arise from its comedy.
April Fool's Day  1986
Deborah Foreman  Amy Steel

This is definitely  a hidden horror gem.  Friends gather to a lake house to have their host try out a 'who dunnit' weekend, only they do not know it.  It holds the classic stereotypes of an 80's horror film and the twist was smart and edgy.
Gleaming the Cube  1989
Christian Slater  Tony Hawk

Christian Slater plays "Brian," a slacker skater who finds out his brothers death was a set up and he uncovers a secret life that may also kill him if he is not careful.  I adore this film, young blonde Christian Slater heck yeah!

BMX Bandits  1983
Nicole Kidman  James Lugton

Young biker kids find a walkie talkies and get involved a chase by criminals who use them to plot robberies.  This is a film I remember watching over and over with my brother and sister.  This Aussie based film is entertaining and fun.  Plus, you get a young fresh Nicole Kidman in her element.
